Dattatreya Swamy Puja is a sacred Hindu ritual dedicated to Lord Dattatreya, the divine incarnation who embodies the trinity of the Supreme Gods: Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer). Lord Dattatreya is revered as a symbol of unity, wisdom, and divine guidance. He is known for his teachings of spiritual knowledge, meditation, and devotion, and his blessings are sought for liberation, wisdom, and removal of obstacles in life.

The puja is commonly performed on Datta Jayanti, the auspicious day that marks the birth of Lord Dattatreya, which falls in the Margashira month (typically December). However, devotees can perform this puja at any time to seek Lord Dattatreya’s blessings for spiritual growth, peace, prosperity, and protection.

The puja begins with cleaning the home or puja space and setting up an altar. A statue or image of Lord Dattatreya is placed on the altar, often depicted with three heads and six hands, symbolizing the trinity. The altar is decorated with flowers, fruits, incense, kumkum, and sandalwood paste.

Devotees purify themselves by taking a bath and wearing clean clothes before starting the ritual. The puja begins with the invocation of Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles. Water, milk, honey, ghee, and fruits are offered to Lord Dattatreya as a sign of devotion. Chanting mantras such as Dattatreya Ashtakshara Mantra (“Om Namo Bhagavate Dattatreya”) and Dattatreya Stotra is an essential part of the puja, as these mantras invoke the deity’s blessings for wisdom, peace, and protection.

After performing Abhishekam (ritual bathing) of the deity, the Aarti is sung in praise of Lord Dattatreya. The puja concludes with distributing prasadam among family members, symbolizing the sharing of divine blessings.

Dattatreya Swamy Puja is a powerful ritual that brings spiritual clarity, divine guidance, and prosperity to the devotee.
