Hanuman Puja on Hanuman Jayanthi is a revered and powerful celebration dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the mighty monkey god, symbolizing strength, devotion, courage, and selfless service. Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated on the 15th day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon phase) in the month of Chaitra (March-April), which is believed to be the birthday of Lord Hanuman, as per the Hindu lunar calendar.
Lord Hanuman is one of the most adored deities in the Hindu pantheon, known for his unwavering devotion to Lord Rama, his heroic acts in the Ramayana, and his ability to overcome immense challenges through his dedication and strength. Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated by devotees who seek blessings from Lord Hanuman for strength, wisdom, courage, and the removal of obstacles in their lives.
The ritual begins by setting up a clean altar with an idol or image of Lord Hanuman, which is often adorned with flowers (especially red and marigold), kumkum, and turmeric. Devotees offer incense sticks, ghee lamps, and prayers while chanting the Hanuman Chalisa, a 40-verse devotional hymn that praises Lord Hanuman’s attributes and deeds. The Hanuman Ashtakshara Mantra (“Om Hanumate Namah”) is also recited for protection and strength.
During Hanuman Jayanthi, devotees fast and engage in Bhajan singing (devotional music) to celebrate Lord Hanuman’s divine qualities. Prasad offerings, such as laddu (sweet), fruit, and coconut, are given to the deity and later shared among the devotees.
Hanuman Jayanthi is a time for devotional reflection, seeking mental strength, physical vitality, and spiritual growth. It is believed that worshiping Lord Hanuman on this day brings protection, removes negative energies, and enhances one’s ability to face challenges in life.
