π Significance:
Vishwakarma Pooja is dedicated to Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and engineer of the gods. He is regarded as the deity of creation, craftsmanship, and innovation. In Maharashtra, the day is especially important for artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, engineers, factory workers, and those involved in construction, design, and manufacturing. Tools, machines, vehicles, and workplaces are worshipped on this day to seek blessings for productivity, safety, and prosperity.
ποΈ When Itβs Performed:
- Celebrated on Kanya Sankranti (around 17th September every year)
- Pooja is performed during morning hours after cleaning and decorating the workplace
- In some regions, it is also observed the day after Diwali (Govardhan Puja day), especially in factories
π Who Can Perform:
- Artisans, engineers, factory/shop owners, mechanics, architects, and anyone using tools or machinery
- Performed individually or collectively at homes, workshops, offices, and factories
- Can be conducted by a Panditji or by the head of the family/business
π¦ Puja Samagri (Items Required):
- Photo or idol of Lord Vishwakarma
- Tools, machines, vehicles cleaned and decorated
- Haldi, kumkum, akshata (rice grains), sandalwood paste
- Flowers, garlands, banana leaves
- Diya (lamp), agarbatti, camphor
- Fruits, sweets (like modaks, laddoos), dry fruits
- Betel leaves, supari, coconut, Panchamrit
- Kalash with mango leaves and coconut
- Red cloth for altar decoration

- Cleaning and decorating the workspace, tools, and machines
- Placing the idol/photo of Lord Vishwakarma on a clean red/yellow cloth
- Offering haldi, kumkum, akshata, flowers, and garlands to the deity
- Lighting diya and incense, performing aarti
- Chanting Vishwakarma Gayatri Mantra or Vishwakarma Chalisa
- Offering naivedya and distributing prasad among workers and staff
- Avoiding the use of machines/tools for the rest of the day as a mark of reverence
