📜 Significance:
Rath Yatra is the grand chariot festival dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu/Krishna. This festival symbolizes the journey of the Lord from his temple to his garden palace (Gundicha Temple), representing the divine’s accessibility to devotees and the cyclical nature of life. Though Rath Yatra originated and is most famous in Puri, Odisha, it is celebrated with devotion in Maharashtra’s Jagannath temples and communities, fostering unity, devotion, and cultural heritage. Pulling the chariot is considered highly auspicious and a way to receive the Lord’s blessings.
🗓️ When It’s Performed:
- Annually during the month of Ashadha (June–July), usually on Dwitiya (second day) of the bright fortnight
- The festival lasts for several days, culminating with the return journey of the deities

🕯️ Main Rituals:
- Snana Yatra (Bathing ceremony) of the deities prior to Rath Yatra
- Decoration and placement of the idols on elaborately crafted chariots

- Pulling the chariot by devotees through the streets accompanied by singing and dancing
