
Mangala Gowri Vratham is a deeply auspicious and spiritually uplifting ritual observed by married women on Tuesdays during the month of Shravana (July–August). ✨ Ganapathi Pooja – The ritual begins with invoking Lord Ganesha, seeking his blessings for the smooth conduct of the pooja and removal of all obstacles.
✨ Kalasha Sthapana – A sacred Kalasha (pot) is installed and decorated with mango leaves and coconut, symbolizing the divine presence of Goddess Gowri.
✨ Gowri Idol or Picture Worship – A silver idol or image of Goddess Gowri is adorned with turmeric, kumkum, flowers, and jewelry.
✨ Lighting of Lamps (Deepam) – Traditional oil lamps are lit, signifying the removal of ignorance and negativity.
✨ Offering of Pooja Items – Devotees offer:
- Turmeric, kumkum, bangles, and blouse pieces (symbolizing sumangali status)
- Fruits, flowers (especially red or yellow), and five types of naivedyam (special food offerings)
- Betel leaves, areca nuts, coconuts, and sacred rice
✨ Chanting of Mangala Gowri Slokas and Mantras – Devotees recite:
- “Gowri Ashtothram” (108 names of Goddess Gowri)
- “Mangala Gowri Vratam Katha” – The sacred story is narrated, reflecting the power of the Goddess and the strength of a woman’s devotion.
✨ Performing Aarti – A heartfelt aarti is offered to Goddess Gowri with claps, lamps, and devotion, followed by distributing prasadam.
✨ Offering to Sumangalis – Gifts (like bangles, vermilion, and sweets) are given to married women, symbolizing the transfer of auspicious energy and blessings.
