Navagraha Shanti Puja is a ritual performed to appease the nine planets (Navagrahas) in Hindu astrology. The nine planets are considered to influence various aspects of life, such as health, wealth, and relationships. The Navagrahas include Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Mangala (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Guru (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn), Rahu, and Ketu.

This puja is conducted when the planets are believed to be inauspicious or if they are causing difficulties in the life of the devotee. The puja aims to calm the negative influences of these planets, thereby bringing about peace, prosperity, and harmony in life.

The ritual begins with sankalpam (a formal resolution or prayer), followed by the installation of nine small idols or pictures representing the nine planets. Devotees offer flowers, incense, and fruits to each planet, along with specific mantras and prayers. Homa (fire sacrifice) is often performed to invoke the blessings of the Navagrahas and to reduce the malefic effects caused by planetary doshas.

Each planet has its specific mantra, and the worship of the planets is done according to their specific times and placements in the zodiac. The puja may also involve the recitation of texts like the Navagraha Stotra and the Navagraha Ashtakshara Mantras.

The Navagraha Shanti Puja is believed to bring balance and peace to one’s life, helping to overcome obstacles, remove doshas (afflictions), and improve overall well-being. It is particularly beneficial during dasa periods (planetary cycles) or when the planets are causing difficult situations in one’s life.
