Kumari Puja (also spelled Kanya Puja) is a sacred Hindu ritual where young, prepubescent girls (typically aged 2 to 10) are worshipped as living embodiments of the Divine Mother – especially Goddess Durga in her most pure and innocent form. It is most prominently performed during Navratri, especially on Ashtami (eighth day) or Navami (ninth day).

- An additional boy may be included as Batuk/Bhairav, symbolizing Shiva’s protective aspect.

- The girls are invited respectfully and washed feet are welcomed with chandan (sandalwood), flowers, and aarti.
- They are made to sit on clean seats, and their feet are washed with sacred water (as symbolic Padya Puja).
