Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, is a highly auspicious Hindu and Jain festival celebrated on the third day (Tritiya) of the bright half of the lunar month of Vaishakha (April–May). The word Akshaya means “eternal” or “never diminishing”, and it is believed that any good deeds or ventures begun on this day bring lasting prosperity and success.

- In Hindu tradition, Akshaya Tritiya marks:
- The birth of Lord Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu.
- The day when Lord Ganesha began writing the Mahabharata as dictated by Sage Vyasa.
- The river Ganga’s descent to Earth.
- The day Draupadi received the Akshaya Patra (never-empty vessel) from Lord Krishna.
- In Jainism, it marks the end of the year-long fast by Lord Rishabhanatha, the first Tirthankara.

- Morning Rituals:
- Devotees wake up early, bathe, and wear clean or new clothes.
- Homes are cleaned and decorated with rangoli and flowers.
- Lakshmi and Vishnu Puja:
- Special prayers and puja are offered to Goddess Lakshmi (for wealth) and Lord Vishnu (for protection and sustenance).
- An idol or image of both deities is placed on a clean altar.
- Offerings (Naivedya):
- Offer sweets, fruits, tulsi leaves, rice, sandalwood paste, and gold or silver items.
- Devotees also offer milk, water, and sacred items while chanting mantras like:

- Donating food, clothes, gold, grains, or money on this day is considered especially meritorious and brings inexhaustible spiritual benefit.
- Purchasing Gold or Property:
- Buying gold, silver, or new property on Akshaya Tritiya is believed to bring endless prosperity and is considered extremely lucky.
