Gruha Pravesha Puja is a sacred Hindu ritual performed when entering a new house or home. The term “Graha” refers to a house, and “Pravesha” means entry. This puja is essential for purifying the home and inviting positive energy, peace, prosperity, and divine blessings into the new space.
The puja typically involves prayers to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and Lord Vastu Purusha, the deity of the house and its environment. The puja begins with the worship of Ganesha to remove any potential hindrances. Pooja samagri (ritual items) such as fruits, flowers, incense, and holy water are placed in the home’s entrance. The house is decorated with rangoli (decorative patterns) and mango leaves to invite prosperity and happiness.
The key ritual includes homa (fire ritual) to purify the space, invoking the Vastu Deva (deity of the house) to bless the house with prosperity and protection. A priest will also perform Vastu Shanti, chanting specific Vedic mantras that ensure the home is aligned with positive cosmic energy. Cow dung, ghee, and rice are often used in the homa to purify the environment.
The puja concludes with the family members walking around the house, symbolizing the family’s connection to their new home, and prasad (sacred food) is distributed among the participants. Gruha Pravesha Puja ensures that the new home is blessed, providing happiness, health, and prosperity.
