🕉️ What is Ganapathi Homam?

Ganapathi Homam (or Ganapati Homa) is a powerful Vedic fire ritual dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta).
It is performed to seek blessings for success, prosperity, removal of obstacles, and auspicious beginnings.

  • “Ganapathi” means leader of groups (Ganas = groups, Pati = lord).

  • This homam is usually performed before starting any major work, like:

    • Marriage

    • Housewarming (Grihapravesam)

    • New business or job

    • Important spiritual rituals (e.g., before Navaratri, Maha Mrityunjaya Homa, etc.)

Ganapathi Homam – Pooja Items List

Basic Setup:

  • Homa Kundam (Fire Pit)

  • Dry Wood (preferably mango wood)

  • Camphor

  • Ghee

  • Cow Dung Cakes (optional)

  • Cotton wicks

  • Agarbatti (incense sticks)

  • Deepam (oil lamp)

Offerings (Dravyam and Materials):

  • Modakam (sweet dumplings) – Lord Ganesha’s favorite

  • Fresh Fruits (5 types minimum)

  • Coconut (at least 2 or 3)

  • Betel Leaves (minimum 21) and Betel Nuts

  • Flowers (Red or Yellow preferred)
