🕉️ What is Deerghayush Homam?

Deerghayush Homam is a special Vedic fire ritual performed to pray for long life, good health, protection from illnesses, and overall well-being.
The word “Deergha” means long and “Ayush” means life — so it is literally “Homam for Long Life.”

It is traditionally performed:

  • On a child’s first birthday (Ayushya Homam)

  • After recovery from illness

  • On important milestones (like 60th, 70th birthdays)

  • For people facing health problems, or to ward off doshas (bad planetary effects) affecting life span.

This homam primarily invokes blessings from Ayur Devatas (gods of health and life) and deities like:

  • Lord Ayur Devata (Deity of health and longevity)

  • Lord Dhanvantri (Physician of the gods)

  • Lord Shiva (as Mrityunjaya, conqueror of death)
