Shastipoorthi Puja (also spelled Shashtipoorthi) is a traditional Hindu ceremony that marks the 60th birthday of a person, particularly men. This milestone is considered highly significant in Hindu culture, symbolizing the completion of five decades of life and entry into a spiritually focused phase.

Meaning and Significance

  • Shasti = 60, Poorthi = completion.

  • It is a Sanskrit-based Vedic ritual performed to celebrate longevity and seek blessings for health, peace, and spiritual progress.

  • It is believed that after 60, a person should reduce material pursuits and focus more on dharma (duty), spiritual practices, and service.

  1. Ganapati Puja – Invocation of Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles.

  2. Navagraha Puja – Worship of the nine planets to seek balance and grace.

  3. Mrityunjaya Homa – Performed for health and long life.

  4. Kalasha Sthapana & Punyahavachanam – Sanctification of the space and water vessels used.

  5. Ayush Homam – A powerful fire ritual for long life and vitality.

  6. Abhishekam – Sacred bath given to the couple with holy water, milk, etc.
